Hymn to the Night

Posted in Longfellow, Nights, Poetry on October 8, 2008 by moragglimmerwitch

I heard the trailing garments of the Night
Sweep through her marble halls!
I saw her sable skirts all fringed with light
From the celestial walls!
I felt her presence, by its spell of might,
Stoop o’er me from above;
The calm, majestic presence of the Night,
As of the one I love.
I heard the sounds of sorrow and delight,
The manifold, soft chimes,
That fill the haunted chambers of the Night
Like some old poet’s rhymes.
From the cool cisterns of the midnight air
My spirit drank repose;
The fountain of perpetual peace flows there,–
From those deep cisterns flows.
O holy Night! from thee I learn to bear
What man has borne before!
Thou layest thy finger on the lips of Care,
And they complain no more.
Peace! Peace! Orestes-like I breathe this prayer!
Descend with broad-winged flight,
The welcome, the thrice-prayed for, the most fair,
The best-beloved Night!

The Heart Of The Matter

Posted in Feelings, Forgiveness, Life, Love, Moods on October 8, 2008 by moragglimmerwitch

Words that seem to come up deep from inside about “an old true friend” I have recently come in contact with

These times are so uncertain
There’s a yearning undefined
…People filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age
The trust and self-assurance that can lead to happiness
They’re the very things we kill, I guess
Pride and competition cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us,
Doesn’t keep me warm

I’m learning to live without you now
But I miss you, Baby
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I figured out, I have to learn again
I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But everything changes
And my friends seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don’t love me anymore

There are people in your life who’ve come and gone
They let you down and hurt your pride
Better put it all behind you; life goes on
You keep carrin’ that anger, it’ll eat you inside

I’ve been tryin’ to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it’s about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don’t love me anymore

a series of moments

Posted in Life on October 5, 2008 by moragglimmerwitch
Life is just a series of moments. No two alike, none to be repeated.

This summer I made an effort to live within each moment.

I wasn’t always successful. Sometimes I thought too much about moments that had passed and moments yet to come.

This post was going to be about change; how much change I have experienced this summer. How my days now look oh so different from my days then. But of course the summer brought change. Seasons are all about change.

So instead my post is about a moment. A late summer evening, the sun setting faster than the night before.  For now, all is quiet.  It was a moment like no other, never to occur again, but always to be remembered

Witches Weekly #1

Posted in Life, Pagan on October 4, 2008 by moragglimmerwitch

Witches Weekly is a Friday Five for Witches and Pagans.  I will make an attempt to answer one of the site’s questions.

The question:
Where in your list of roles do you place your role of a pagan?

Explanation:
By roles I mean, mother, brother, daughter, son, worker, democrat, American, lover, caretaker, etc. We all have a lot of different roles we play and usually they all fall into an order of importance. Is being a “pagan” at the top, or is it somewhere in the middle?”

My Answer:
My response to this question is a lot simpler than even I expected. To me, I don’t even think about my spiritual beliefs on a regular basis. They’re a part of who I am and therefore I feel that it comes before any other adjective that could be used to describe me. My thoughts and philosophies concerning life and the universe shape every action I take, as a daughter, sister, wife, voter, business person, and even cook. They’re ingrained. I don’t wake up every morning and affirm “I’m a pagan”, just like I don’t look at myself in the mirror and think that being a brunette is something separate from the rest of my person.

blathering babble and other incoherent nonsense

Forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of those that think they talk sense. Robert Frost

Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children. Kahlil Gibran

I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers. Kahlil Gibran

And remember, no matter where you go, there you are.
